Subaru Legacy BN/BS (2015-2019) Service Manual: Operation

1. SELF-DIAGNOSIS DISPLAY MODE

The combination meter self-diagnosis can be performed as a single unit according to the following procedure.

When the self-diagnosis display mode operates, it switches in the order of [1. Meter pointer operation check] > [2. Meter pointer indication check] > [3. TFT display check].

1. Procedure

CAUTION:

Perform the steps described in (1) through (4) within 10 seconds.

Within 3 seconds after turning the ignition switch to ON, set the parking light switch or the headlight switch to ON.

(2)

While the switch is in ON, press the trip reset switch three times.

(3)

Turn the parking light switch or the headlight switch to OFF, and press the trip reset switch three times.

(4)

Turn the parking light switch or the headlight switch to ON, and press the trip reset switch three times.

2. Go to the self-diagnosis display mode.

CAUTION:

If the procedure is not performed properly, turn the ignition switch from ON to OFF to stop the operation halfway, and then proceed from step (1) to (4).

NOTE:

Turn the ignition switch to OFF (ACC OFF) to cancel the self-diagnosis function.

When the engine starts during diagnosis, the self-diagnosis function is not cancelled, however, once the vehicle starts driving, the self-diagnosis function is deactivated automatically.

If the self-diagnosis function is not deactivated, the check items in operation are displayed. After the check items 1 to 3 are displayed, the check item 1 is displayed repeatedly.

The buzzer sounds when the check item is switched, to indicate that the item is switched and make sure that the buzzer sounds.

1. Meter pointer operation check

In meter pointer operation check, the meter operation, warning /indicator light, illumination and TFT are checked.

1. After a buzzer sounds for 0.5 seconds and “STEP1” is displayed on TFT, the meter pointer operation check mode is initiated.

*3: Displays each level for one second.

2. Meter pointer indication check

In meter pointer indication check, the meter operation, warning /indicator light and fuel level warning light are checked.

NOTE:

ILL indication illuminates at the same brightness as immediately before entering “Meter pointer indication check”.

1. Press the trip reset switch.

2. After a buzzer sounds for 0.5 seconds and “STEP2” is displayed on TFT, the meter pointer indication check mode is initiated.

3. TFT display check

Check the TFT display.

NOTE:

The meter needle indicate 0 or the lowest position.

ILL indication illuminates at the same brightness as immediately before entering “TFT display check”.

After No. 6 is displayed in the illumination order, display is repeated from No. 1 again.

The version display contents of the illumination order No. 1 varies depending on the vehicle.

1. Press the trip reset switch.

2. After a buzzer sounds for 0.5 seconds and “STEP3” is displayed on TFT, the TFT display check mode is initiated.

2. DEMONSTRATION MODE

The demonstration mode screen of the combination meter can be displayed according to the following procedure.

CAUTION:

To avoid battery discharge, perform the operation under the following condition.

Perform the operation while the battery is being charged.

While performing the operation and displaying the demonstration mode, close all doors and do not operate any electrical parts.

If the battery voltage is low, the demonstration mode is not initiated.

To display the demonstration mode, set the Demonstration mode permission / fault permission of the user customize mode to permission. For operation procedures, refer to “Application help”.

When the demonstration mode display is completed, make sure to set “Demonstration mode permission / fault permission” of the user customize mode to “fault permission”. Do not deliver the vehicle to the customer with “Demonstration mode permission / fault permission” set to “permission”.

Even if the backup fuse is removed, the demonstration mode can be initiated.

1. Procedure

CAUTION:

While the ignition switch is OFF (ACC OFF) and the odo/trip meter is not displayed, perform the steps described in 1) through 4) within 10 seconds.

Press the trip reset switch once.

(2)

Press the i/SET switch three times within three seconds after the operation (1) above is performed.

(3)

Press the trip reset switch once, and press the i/SET switch three times.

(4)

Press the trip reset switch once, and press the i/SET switch three times.

2. The demonstration mode is initiated.

CAUTION:

If the procedure is not performed properly, turn the ignition switch from ON to OFF to stop the operation halfway, and then proceed from step (1) to (4).

NOTE:

The demonstration mode will be cancelled in the following condition.

When resuming the operation after cancellation, the demonstration mode is displayed. However, the resuming can only be accepted after approx. 1 minute.

At the completion of the “goodbye screen” display that is shown 60 minutes after the demonstration mode is initiated

When the ignition switch is turned to ON

When the i/SET switch is turned to ON for two seconds

When the battery voltage is low

When the push button ignition switch is pressed with the access key out of the passenger room

When any request switch is pressed with the access key in the passenger room

3. VARIANT WORK

Perform when replacing the combination meter assembly.

When communication with Subaru Select Monitor is possible («Read Control module setting information» is workable): Perform the operation procedure A.

When communication with Subaru Select Monitor is not possible («Read Control module setting information» is not workable): Perform the operation procedure B.

CAUTION:

Subaru Select Monitor is required for variant work.

If an error is displayed during the work, click the «OK» button and perform the variant work again.

Operation procedure A

1. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor.

2. On «Start» display, select «Diagnosis».

3. On «Vehicle selection» display, enter vehicle information and select «Confirmed».

4. On «Main Menu» display, select «Each System».

5. On «Select System» display, select «Combination Meter» and then select «Enter».

6. On «Select Function» display, select «Work Support».

7. From the work support list, select «Read Control module setting information».

8. Save and close the file.

9. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new part.

10. On «Main Menu» display, select «Each System».

11. On «Select System» display, select «Combination Meter» and then select «Enter».

12. On «Select Function» display, select «Work Support».

13. Select «Write ECU setting save data», and open the file stored in «Read Control module setting information».

14. When the confirmation screen indicating the vehicle information appears, check that the correct information is displayed and click the «OK» button.

15. Confirm that «Write operation was completed.» is displayed, and click the «OK» button.

Operation procedure B

1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new part.

2. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor.

3. On «Start» display, select «Diagnosis».

4. On «Vehicle selection» display, enter vehicle information and select «Confirmed».

5. On «Main Menu» display, select «Each System».

6. On «Select System» display, select «Combination Meter» and then select «Enter».

7. On «Select Function» display, select «Work Support».

8. From the work support list, select «Write ECU setting 12 columns of models». Enter the applied model and click the «OK» button.

9. Enter the option code and click the «OK» button.

10. Confirm the vehicle information on «Write ECU setting 12 columns of models» display and click the «OK» button.

11. When «Write-» is shown on the screen, click the «Yes» button.

12. Confirm that «Write operation was completed.» is displayed, and click the «OK» button.
